Switzerland, Western Europe, Grimsel region, nr. Guttannen, Gelmerbahn funicular. Passenger car descending. Note: No releases available. --- Info: The Gelmer cable car funicular railway with a maximum incline of 106 percent is Europe's steepest cable car. The Gelmer Railway was built in the 1920s to help with the construction of the Lake Gelmer water reservoir dam. Originally used for freight the cable car was converted to a passenger railway in 2001. The 12 minutes and one kilometer long ride in the open carriages overcomes a 450 meters height difference and takes one up to Lake Gelmer at an altitude of 1860 meters above sea level. The region where the reservoir is located is the starting point for hikes and mountain tours.
