Asia, Vietnam, Hoi An. Hoi An old quarter. The pituresque covered Japanese Bridge from 1593 traverses a branch of the Thu Bon river. The historic buildings, attractive tube houses, and decorated community halls have 1999 earned Hoi An's old quarter the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To protect the old quarter's character stringent conversation laws prohibit alterations to buildings, as well as the presence of cars on the roads.
